Reforming arrangements for regulating gasfitting, gas installations and appliances

At the request of the Minister for Regulatory Reform, the Hon Joe Tripodi MP, the Better Regulation Office worked with the Department of Water and Energy, Office of Fair Trading, Roads and Traffic Authority and WorkCover NSW, to review regulatory roles and responsibilities in gasfitting, gas installations and appliances. The aim was to identify ways to improve the regulatory framework.

The Office conducted extensive targeted consultation with key NSW-based and national organisations and businesses with an interest in gasfitting and gas appliances, including autogas.

The review was completed in June 2009 and its recommendations are set out in a final report. The NSW Government announced the release of the review report in July and implementation of the reforms is expected to take place by the end of 2009.

The review does not propose any changes to licensing for gasfitters, or to the standards for gasfitting, installations or appliances.
