$500 million Red Tape Target
In April 2009, the Premier committed to reduce red tape in NSW by $500 million by June 2011. This announcement was made as part of the response to the Jobs Summit. Red tape savings to both business and the community are used to calculate progress towards the target.
NSW Government agency CEOs report to the Better Regulation Office twice per year on red tape cuts they have achieved over the previous six months in addition to what red tape cuts they intend to achieve over the next six months. This information is used to inform the target calculation.
Progress towards achieving the target will be reported regularly on the Better Regulation Office website and in future editions of the BRO Annual Update.
Reforms implemented since the announcement to 30 June 2009 have contributed $147 million towards the target and the NSW Government is on track to meet this ambitious commitment by June 2011.
