The Better Regulation Office
The Better Regulation Office was established in early 2007 and is located within the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. The Better Regulation Office develops and implements the NSW Government’s regulatory reform agenda to reduce the regulatory burden and cut red tape for business.
Reporting to the NSW Premier, the Office implements the NSW Government’s comprehensive regulatory reform agenda which aims to address unnecessary or poorly designed regulation and reduce excessive compliance costs on business and remove restrictions on competition and distortions in the allocation of resources in the economy.
In performing its role, the Office:

- conducts targeted reviews, into specific regulatory areas or industries where reducing red tape will benefit the State’s economy including small business
- reports annually on the Government’s regulatory reform achievements and compliance against performance measures
- provides ongoing advice and practical tools to agencies to assist in meeting the better regulation requirements
- supports the NSW Government’s national regulatory reform commitments as a member of COAG’s Business Regulation and Competition Working Group and monitors reform progress within NSW.
